What you eat matters!

      Be aware!

It’s NOT food as food!

Some food provide us with vitamins, minerals, proteins, healthy fats etc., and other are just shallow calories coming from sugar.

Grains! Many people are now gluten sensitive and gluten is mainly found in grains. Bad news is that Gluten is only one of many dangerous proteins in grain. So, you’re asking what to do? Not to eat grains at all? How? People ate it for thousands of years and now we should avoid it?

No, you do not need to avoid all grain products forever, but be aware that too many and too often is not good for you. Take a day off grains from time to time. (most of the time)

Fruits - The nature’s sweets. Fruits are believed to be healthy foods, and they are, because they are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants etc. Only the good things, right? That is not completely true. Yes, it is good to have a piece of fruit, especially when in season, and when in original form. Not a juice! Juicing fruit is not good for you. You strip the fruit of fibre and therefore what could have been a healthy snack you are consuming a sugar bomb.

Avoid sugar! Sugar is your worst enemy! When I say this, I am not saying you have to give up all carbohydrates, as all carbohydrates are sugars. First thing first, carbohydrates are either sugars (the bad guys) or complex carbohydrates. All simple sugars are bad for you because they provide you with quick energy, but none nourishment. The only thing satisfied is you tongue. You need more than that, you need to feed you brain, your muscles, your blood, your gut, immune system, nervous system, etc. KEEP THAT IN MIND! PS- occasional treat is fine, just do not over do it!

Sugars are table sugar, honey, chocolate, fruit juices, milk, cookies, corn syrup, snacks, sugary drinks like Coke or Fanta.

Complex carbohydrates - whole fruits, pasta, rice, potatoes, vegetable, beans.

Vegetables! Like beans, lentils, peas, tofu. I love vegetables, but trust me when I say not all vegetables are good for you. This has something to do with their proteins. As you know, all live forms have evolved to have some defensive mechanisms, and plants are not different. This goes for fruit as well.

Oils! Yes, when we talk about food and calories, we have to take in consideration oils we use. The most common oil for cooking is sunflower oil. Please, do not over use it, and if you can, swap to olive oil or coconut oil.

Dairy! Cheese is brilliant addition to your meals, but is dense in calories. Milk and yogurt should be consumed sporadically. Yes, most people are fine eating yogurt, but if you feel your body isn’t in its best shape and want to change that, stop dairy for a few weeks. (with exception for cheese, goat cheese is top!)
